Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Manolo Lopez moved to New York to study design at NYU. A frequent host of private dinner parties showcasing Latin cuisine from the island and beyond, in 2014, Manolo applied to Smorgasburg, an outdoor food market in Brooklyn. Selected as a new vendor, he quit his job in the design industry and set up shop as Mofon•GO. Over the past year, he’s overseen expansion from one location with four employees, to three locations with 20 employees – including a 20-foot shipping container in Coney Island and been featured at several high-profile events at the Brooklyn Museum, Intrepid Museum, Museo del Barrio, and Central Park with brands such as Rums of Puerto Rico, Hennessy Black, and Product(RED).
Lopez has worked with or been featured by the likes of Spike Lee, Bon Appetit, VICE, Refinery 29, Remezcla, El Nuevo Dia and his mission remains unchanged – to elevate the standing of Puerto Rican food and culture in NY, representing a new wave of Latinos with a progressive mindset. Merging his eye for design, training in business and upbringing in food, Mofon∙GO has been a labor of love from day one. “I believe I have an obligation to my island and my people. I’ll always do my best to shine a positive light and contribute by helping others. Whether it’s in NY, PR or any part of the world, people will get to know who we are and how we got here”
