José Santaella is the CEO and master chef of JSB Cooking Group, the premier gourmet catering company of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Trained in Barcelona, New York and San Francisco, with master chefs Ferrán Adriá (El Bulli), Eric Ripert (Le Bernardin), and Gary Danko (The Dining Room), Santaella is not only a trend-setting caterer in Puerto Rico, but an accomplished one. The University of Puerto Rico Press recently recognized Santaella with the cover piece of “Puerto Rico: Grand Cuisine of the Caribbean,” a book featuring nine master chefs and prologued by three-star Michelin chefs Santi Santamaría and Eric Ripert.
Today, besides mastering the kitchen, José plays host at his restaurant Santaella. He describes his cuisine as “very simple, albeit sophisticated.” Designed by world-renowned architectural firm Toro Arquitectos, his restaurant opened in Summer 2011 at the epicenter of a very important farmer’s market ‘La Placita’ in Santurce, Puerto Rico where he also has his workshop. In 2014, José released his now best-selling cookbook, Cocina Tropical: The Classic & Contemporary Flavors of Puerto Rico.
